A message from Ria

I am PC 1120 Ria Featherstone, based at Bransholme police station in Humberside. I am a neighbourhood beat officer, so I am heavily involved in the community I serve. I am always looking for ways I can improve engagement and partnership working within the community.

Over the course of the last 18 months, I have been working alongside the No Way trust to deliver Your Choice days to local primary schools in the Hull area. Between myself and the trust, we have raised funding to ensure these events have been at no cost to the schools themselves. It is hugely important for us as police officers to engage with the children who live in the communities we serve and assist in giving them the tools and knowledge to make the right choices as they transition from primary school to second school and beyond into adulthood.

The partnership between myself and the No way trust has been more successful than I could have hoped for – we will have delivered the event to 35 schools on the North bank by the end of the 2021/2022 academic year. All children at these schools will have met their local police officer/PCSOs and learnt all about important subjects such as knife crime, online safety, the law and Anti-social behaviour.

Moving forward I really hope we continue with our success and see more and more schools receiving the event and hopefully if everything goes to plan, we will reach even more schools by branching out to the South bank into schools within the North-East Lincolnshire area.
