Prison Me No Way, a unique and eye-opening initiative, recently took place in Portsmouth, leaving a lasting impact on students from Fareham Academy, Cowplain School, Park Community School, Trafalgar School, and Admiral Lord Nelson School.

Exploring Prison Life:

One of the highlights of PMNW week in Portsmouth was the interactive session led by a retired prison officer. With years of experience working in prisons, the officer engaged the students in an open dialogue, allowing them to ask any questions they had about prison life. This candid exchange provided a unique perspective and helped dispel misconceptions and myths surrounding the prison system. Students gained valuable insights into challenges faced by both inmates and prison staff, fostering empathy and understanding.

Inside a Mock Prison Cell:

During the second half of the session, students were given the opportunity to step outside and explore a mock - up prison cell. This specially designed van replicated the environment of a real prison cell, offering an authentic experience. Every detail inside the van was sourced from an actual prison, creating a realistic atmosphere. This hands-on experience allowed students to visualise the living conditions and constraints faced by prisoners, further deepening their understanding of the consequences of criminal behaviour.

Railway Safety Awareness:

In addition to the prison-themed activities, outside agencies played a crucial role in educating the students on other important topics. The Great Northern Rail joined the program to teach students about railway safety. Students learned about the potential dangers associated with trespassing on rail tracks and the importance of adhering to safety guidelines. This knowledge empowers students to make informed decisions and stay safe when using railway systems.

Recognising Domestic Abuse:

Another significant aspect of Prison Me No Way week in Portsmouth was the participation of Southern Domestic Abuse, an external agency dedicated to raising awareness about domestic abuse. Through informative sessions, students were educated on the signs and consequences of domestic abuse. This is crucial knowledge equips them to recognise and support individuals who may be experiencing such situations by promoting awareness sand empathy, this session aimed to empower students to create a safer and ore compassionate society.

The feedback received from both students and educators has been overwhelmingly positive.
