Matt sutton

Matt hails from Hull and is hugely proud of his home city taken every possible opportunity to return and perform on stage whenever possible. He first became involved with PMNW back in the beginning as an 18-year-old taking the lead role as a young prisoner in the very first and original Prison Me No Way film – made for video – in 1993. Filming took place in, the then, Moorlands Young Offenders Institution (YOI), near Doncaster that included a young film crew from the ‘University of Humberside’ and working with actual young offenders. 

He recalls filming in a real YOI as being a bit scary at times, especially the enclosed nature of the filming locations, scenes involving young offenders and the security required to manage filming. It was nevertheless a ground breaking film for the time and when launched in December 1993 it featured on TV Media bulletins across the country catapulting PMNW into the public spotlight. Over the past 30 years Matt’s roles with PMNW have included supporting evolution of the charity through the years, as a Trustee and now as an esteemed Patron. 

Matt has gone on to develop many talents and his career has been on an upward trajectory. He has taken leading theatre roles in the UK and in New York; has played parts in numerous TV series and Movie’s for the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky, Netflix and Amazon Prime and has also worked on Radio. Matt has also provided voice overs for leading brand adverts and performs as a stand-up comedian. 

Matt says – the vision of PMNW from the outset has never changed – that is to prevent just one young person going off the rails and making a mistake that could land them in prison, as a Criminal Record can have a life changing negative impact. That was the vison then and continues to be the vision now. It is really important that people continue to get on board with PMNW and make sure its great work, and others, continues in the coming years. 

The staunch support Matt has provided this charity for its whole time in existence, is overwhelming. His passion for the cause and compassion for the beneficiaries has never waned. We really are fortuitous to be able to call him yet another truly esteemed patron to whom this charity will be forever indebted.
