PMNW visits south craven school: engaging workshops on life choices.

On a recent visit to South Craven School, Prison Me No Way facilitated a series of impactful workshops aimed at educating students about the complexities of life choices and the consequences that can arise from them. This initiative was part of a broader effort to engage young people in meaningful discussions about their futures and the importance of making informed decisions.

One of the standout features of the day was the opportunity for students to hear directly from a current serving prisoner. This unique perspective offered an unfiltered insight into prison life, allowing students to grasp the stark realities of incarceration. The prisoner shared his personal story, detailing the circumstances that led to his imprisonment and the lessons he had learned along the way. His candid account highlighted the importance of thinking critically about choices, particularly in the context of peer pressure and the allure of criminal activity.

Leading the workshop was an experienced prison officer who provided context to the prisoner’s story, explaining the daily realities of life behind bars. The officer emphasised the structured environment of a prison and the various programs available to inmates aimed at rehabilitation. This insight helped demystify some of the misconceptions surrounding prison life, reinforcing the idea that every choice carries weight and can have lasting repercussions.

In addition to personal narratives, the workshops covered crucial topics such as county lines, which refers to the exploitation of young people in drug trafficking, and the dangers associated with it. Students learned about the tactics used by gangs to recruit vulnerable individuals and the potential legal and personal consequences involved.

Fire safety was another critical aspect of the workshops, where students were educated on the importance of fire awareness and prevention, as well as the responsibilities that come with it.

The concept of ‘one punch’ was also explored, making students aware of the devastating effects of violence and the split-second decisions that can alter lives forever. This segment aimed to foster empathy and encourage students to consider the implications of their actions on others.

Overall, PMNW’s visit to South Craven School was a resounding success, leaving students with valuable knowledge and a deeper understanding of the consequences of their choices. By engaging with real-life stories and expert guidance, students were better equipped to navigate their futures with awareness and responsibility.
